A quick look at the fine-dining spots of Westlands

Westlands is the vibrant heart of Nairobi’s fine-dining scene. Within the leafy and oft times modern skylines of Westy, you are perfectly positioned to access the city’s top-tier restaurants. The diversity of the cuisine is as rich as that of the people who are in & out of this suburb. From Ethiopian and Indian dining spots, to Vietnamese easy diners. Based on business data and local guides, there are dozens upon dozens of notable restaurants covering a broad range of dining experiences. Here’s just a top level look at some of our favs:

  • Amaica Restaurant – starting off is undoubtedly one of the favourites fine-dining restaurants that offer authentic Kenyan, and some “African” food experiences. Located off Peponi rd
  • K’Osewe Westlands – is another authentic Kenyan dish restaurant, located on Rhapta Road, Westlands. At K’Osewe, you will enjoy fish dishes prepared as the Lakeside people in the West and the Ocean communities in the East prepare. And many other delicacies in between either Coasts.
  • Haandi – at The Mall Westlands and its equally sumptuous ChowPatty chains of restaurants, offer great Indian cuisines that leave you licking your fingers.
  • Mama Ashanti – located in Lavington focuses on Nigerian & Ghanian food palates, and some Camerounian dishes
  • Asmara on General Mathenge Drv and the Abyssinia and Habesha chains in Lavington and Westlands offer the Eritrean and Ethiopian cuisine in very chic, modern yet airy aesthetic that takes you back to the mountain highlands of Amba Ferit & Emba Soira.
  • Chengdu restaurant in Kilimani and their branch off Riverside take us further East to the Chinese cuisine.
  • Dae Jang Geum – on General Mathenge Drv happens to be the gold standard for Korean BBQ in Nairobi.
  • Ain Korean – in Lavington offers tasty Home-style cooking, and is often frequented by the Korean community.
  • Mister Wok – is yet another great dining restaurant offering East Asian cuisine experience, with branches in Parklands, Karen and Mombasa rd.

270° Rooftop – at the junction of Lantana Rd and Rhapta Rd offers ultra-scenic views of the city, while serving great continental meals

  • Nairobi Street Kitchen – perhaps the quintessential Nairobi culture, the NSK is one diverse multi-vendor spot – with Chinese, Korean, Indian, Kenyan and all things in between, all in one roof. It is a wonderful experience, esp when they have events within, a chic fashion event here, an intimate concert there, a melting pot of different generations and cultures.
  • Artcafé – though cafés are not known as a fine-dining eateris, the Artcafé chain of eateries are quite the experience. They have recently been on an expansion adventure, with many express and full restaurant cafés popping up on favourite corners and service stations.
  • Măm Măm Westlands – is a great, funky Vietnamese Kitchen restaurant on Mwanzi Market in the heart of Westlands. A great experience of the Viet culture from the aesthetics, the tikkie bar, and the selection of meals.

There are a great many establishments nestled in and round Westlands. Should you settle in the area, you will find quite a great variety. And we haven’t even began on the nightlife spots.
